Local, Meaningful Missions that Truly Make a Difference...
We can do even more with your help!
Staple Tools And Resources To Ease Relocation: When other local agencies rehome the homeless, they are still without the pots, dishes, utensils, bed linens, towels, can opener, and other items needed to make a new home.
Our dedicated team gathers designated contributions, corporate donations and gently used items -- there's quite a list! -- and as the local social service agencies call, we step up to meet the challenge, packing and delivering whatever that size family will need to begin again.
We definitely need helpers and donors for this extraordinary Mission-Project.
Every Spring, we start our Community Garden to one side of the parking lot where a dedicated team of coordinated volunteers share their time and expertise to keep it bountiful with fresh produce throughout the growing season.
We then donate this food to Island Harvest, where it gets shared with hungry people throughout the local area. Nothing goes to waste!
And the blooms from our flower garden decorate the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall before being given away to those who serve or need some cheer!
We work in tandem with local schools who share parent-requests for their kids in greatest need. We then accept private and corporate donations to purchase requested gifts and warm clothing for these children as well as provide a really fun Winter Holiday party for them.
For those who cannot attend, we deliver the gifts in person. For such children, these may be the only gifts they will receive.
We also host a similar Spring Fling for underserved children. Frolicking on the lawn playing games, dancing, and hunting for eggs is accompanied by a tasty feast.
On the last Saturday in October, when the Veil between Worlds is said to be at its thinnest, you and everyone in the Long Island area are invited to join us at a special Memorial Service for all our precious loved ones who passed away in the preceding year(s).
There may be tears...refound joy in the life shared...and much comfort to be felt during our Remembrance Ceremony.
All are genuinely welcome to experience this special community event.
Come by, shoot out an email or call us and let us know what you like to do! What are your skills and interests? We have so many wonderful things you can help with, some just a few minutes once a week, some other things that are concentrated in a season, and there are leadership roles you might be perfect for. We do honor and recognize our volunteers in many ways, unless you prefer anonymity.
Of course! And we promise, there's a good likelihood you'll make new friends along the way! Lots of our best activities evolve out of a team effort, so you will never feel "dumped on" or underappreciated.
Lots and lots of places! In and around the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall, on the grounds, or in public venues. At the Bingo Hall and at the STARTER Packs storage unit. On the musical talent team. Driver/errand runner. Representative at an event or dinner in the community. Greeting people at the Saturday Service, or serving on the Hospitality Team. Filming, photographing, web designing. Working on an Event-Planning Commitee. Assisting the ministers now and then to clear out a space. Luckily, we have many volunteers, and there is room for you wherever you think you will enjoy serving.
Indeed we do! Leadership, Intern, and Trustee roles are generally held for a year or more. Committee Chairs and Team Leaders typically like serving for a while too. And we cannot say enough about our incredible BINGO Team. Some of our volunteers rotate between positions, and have been with us for decades. Our eldest volunteer is well into her 80's and she really inspires everyone around her!
Click on the button just below, and you can donate to the Gathering of Light directly through Venmo.
Or, you can send a check made out to Gathering of Light and mail it to 203 East Pulaski Rd, Huntington Station, NY 11746.
Be sure to let us know if this is for General Giving or should be directed to a specific, designated mission (such as STARTER Packs) or fund (such as the Memorial Fund or Building Fund).
Like all nonprofits, funds to carry out our missions and purpose is what we need most. But we are thankful for gently-used, pretty, matching household items that can be used in our STARTER Packs (see above)...PLEASE ask us before bringing things to be sure we can use them.
We also gratefully accept items of value, such as merchant and restaurant cards, or theme items to use in raffles and baskets. In addition, Legacy or Memorial Gifts, income-producing property, or appraised fine arts are very deeply appreciated.
Absolutely!
Let us know what you have in mind and we'll see if there's a fit...i.e., landscaping, plumbing, technology, music, Audio-Visual expertise, etc., etc.
Since the Gathering of Light is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, there is a 100% tax-deduction for almost all gifts and contributions.
If you purchase a ticket to a fundraiser, the answer may vary a little depending on the value of what you get. However, even that is tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowable by law.
Members are automatically supplied with a link to see all their donations by type, and non-members can be provided with an end of year statement, if requested.
Of course...we believe in financial transparency!!
Here's a link to an easy to understand graphic from our recent Community Meeting. It breaks out the percentages of where we get our revenues, by type, and where we spend, by function.
And here's a link to Guidestar.org, which tracks nonprofits and their finances. We voluntarily file a Form 990 every year in November, but it may take a few months to get posted there.
